USNRC Selects NUMARK to Support Review of TRISO-X Fuel Fabrication Facility
September 28, 2021 – The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has contracted with NUMARK to provide technical assistance to the NRC staff in evaluating the environmental impacts of a fuel fabrication facility planned by X-energy LLC.
TRISO-X, a subsidiary of X-energy, is expected to submit a license application to the NRC to construct, operate, and decommission a facility for production of tri-structural isotropic (TRISO) type fuel.
NUMARK's work on behalf of NRC will include developing an Environmental Impact Statement and Safety Evaluation Report chapter related to environmental impact and monitoring; assisting in consultation activities under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act; and providing expertise for a potential adjudicatory hearing on the licensing action.
NUMARK will be supported in this effort by environmental specialists from Cardno, Inc., a global professional infrastructure and environmental services company. The period of performance for the work is through September 30, 2024.
