USAID/Laos Mission Biweekly Report (January 31, 2024)

Electric Vehicles (EV) are rapidly becoming more popular and prevalent in Laos. To ensure safety, consistency, and effective implementation of EV charging station (EVCS) regulations across the country, the USAID Laos Energy Security program and the USAID-National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Advanced Energy Partnership collaborated with the Lao PDR Government to organize a two-day training on EV charging stations on December 19th–20th, 2023.

The training facilitated a robust information exchange among the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Électricité du Laos, and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT). The training led by EGAT, highlighted EVCS technologies, testing equipment, backend communication, safety as well as commissioning and testing procedures that are regionally and locally relevant and included practical, hands-on demonstrations at site locations.

So what? By facilitating peer knowledge exchange around EVs and their charging, the Partnership demonstrated the significance of regional cooperation efforts in support of increased deployment of climate appropriate technologies in Laos.
